Top 5 Things To Do in East London
ArcelorMittal Orbit
Found alongside the former Olympic Stadium (now the London Stadium and home to West Ham United Football Club and towering over the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, ArcelorMittal Orbit is the brainchild of Anish Kapoor (a British Indian sculptor specialising in installation art and conceptual art) and Cecil Balmond (a Sri Lanka-born internationally renowned artist, architect and engineer). Standing at 376ft (114.5m) tall and 455 steps up, there are two platforms from which you can take in some great views of the London skyline, including St Paul’s Cathedral, Wembley Stadium and The Shard. There are also some great digital telescopes to use and enhance the views even further, alongside two of Anish Kapoor’s distorting mirrors to keep you entertained. However, perhaps the very best thing about ArcelorMittal Orbit is the tunnel slide you can use to get back to ground-level. A must for thrill-seekers. Imagine how difficult it would be to erect a scaffold around it!!![]()
The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities, Fine Art & Natural History.
Located on Mare Street, between Vyner Street and the Andrews Road gallery enclave, this hidden gem is close enough to be part of the art circuit but far enough to be off the beaten path. Presenting a completely incoherent vision of the earth in a small, close environment, what this museum manages to do is create a unique insight into the world with a “no filter” vibe. There is also a lovely little cocktail bar with the same curious style as the museum. A great addition to the museum since 2016. You can also partake in workshops and various classes. Something for everyone.

London Fields Lido
A 50-metre lido that underwent massive regeneration in 2017, London Fields Lido is open all year-round. London Fields Lido is a wonderful open-air pool where you can splash about beneath the sun. Loved by tourists and locals alike, it gets pretty busy during the summer months and you can find a place to eat at one of the on-site cafés. If you’re visiting in the Autumn or Winter months, worry not – the lido is heated all year round too.
